Powder coatings

Powder coatings, like conventional coatings, consist mainly of pigments, fillers, resins such as polyester, epoxy or acrylic resins as binders, and various additives. In powder coatings, however, these ingredients are in powder form and not in aqueous or solvent-based form.

Here, the application is electrostatic. The powder is electrostatically charged via friction, electrode or corona application and applied to a conductive and grounded surface to be painted. One advantage of powder coating is that there is virtually no paint residue/waste. Other advantages are that the paint is solvent-free and long-lasting.

Pigments play an important role in powder coatings as the main ingredients, particularly in terms of colouration and hiding power. In addition to these obvious properties of pigments in powder coating applications, hardness, resistance and durability are usually positively influenced by the choice of pigment.
