Proven sustainability: Our iron oxide slurries set new standards in environmental performance and transparency

With verified and published environmental product declarations (EPDs) for our iron oxide liquid paints, we offer our customers a decisive competitive advantage and maximum safety for sustainable construction.

For us, sustainability is not a trend, but the core of our strategy for the future. We are consistently working to make our value chain sustainable and to offer our customers not only first-class products, but also demonstrably more environmentally friendly products.

Today we are setting a new milestone: We have received a verified environmental product declaration (EPD) in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 for our iron oxide liquid colours for the colours red, yellow and black.

Your decisive advantage: Significantly lower environmental impact compared to competing products. The results of the EPDs speak for themselves and prove our leading position in sustainability. Our iron oxide slurries have significantly lower GWP (Global Warming Potential) and ECI (Environmental Cost Indicator) values compared to competitive products in the liquid paint sector.

As part of the Dutch determination method, the ECI is collected as an additional indicator to quantify the costs that would arise as a result of offsetting the resulting environmental effects of the product. This indicator is shown in units (euros/cent) and ideally makes it easy to compare different products in a segment. The indicator is calculated by the sum of all differently weighted environmental indicators, which are collected as part of a life cycle analysis.

For you as a customer, this means in concrete terms:

> Improved ecological balance of your end products: Significantly reduce the CO2 footprint of your building materials.

> Benefits of tenders: Easily meet the increasing sustainability requirements for public and private construction projects, particularly in regions with stricter requirements regarding environmental impacts such as those in the Netherlands and therefore across the borders of German-speaking countries.

> Secure certifications: Use our products in a legally secure manner for recognized building certifications such as DGNB, BNB, LEED or BREEAM.

Published and verified

An EPD is not the same as EPD. The decisive difference lies in the publication by a recognized, independent program provider such as MRPI in the Netherlands or the Institute for Building and Environment in Germany. Why is this so important for you when it comes to tenders and project planning?

While an externally verified EPD has a certain validity, in case of doubt, it is treated as internal company environmental information if certain formalities of compliance with the standard have not been met. Only publication by a program owner guarantees that all formal requirements of the EN 15804 and ISO 14025 standards are met in full.

An EPD published by a program owner:

> Is publicly available and transparent: Our EPDs are listed in the program owner's official database. This ensures long-term data availability, which is essential for automated processes and digital planning tools in construction (BIM).

> Is internationally recognized and compliant with standards: It gives you the certainty of using a standardized and comparable document.

> Has maximum credibility and legal certainty: It can be used without hesitation in construction and sustainability assessments and meets the highest requirements for transparency and verifiability.

With this step, we are reinforcing our promise: We are your partner for high-quality pigment solutions, helping you achieve tomorrow's climate goals today.
