Micronised

Micronised pigments represent a refined form of powder pigments that have been ground to a very fine particle size.

The targeted comminution of aggregates and agglomerates during micronisation and the disintegration into the smallest possible form of the pigment, the primary particles, significantly increases its surface area. The particle fineness achieved results in improved hiding power, more homogeneous colouring and an increase in the maximum achievable colour strength of the pigment. The latter represents the characterising performance parameter – the ability to colour another material.

The micronization of pigments is subject to the process of steam jet grinding, an industrially established process for finely ground pigments. In this process, the ground material is fed with steam into an annular chamber in which existing agglomerates and aggregates are micronized by targeted, mutual collision. In the process, a previously defined particle size and also a targeted particle size distribution are achieved, which ultimately defines the color-providing property of the pigment.

The targeted, higher grinding fineness of micronised pigments allows utilising the following advantages:

Guarantee of high hiding power, guarantee of high color strength due to highest grinding fineness, achievement of color homogeneous surfaces due to optimal particle distribution in the medium to be colored, shorter dispersion times and higher throughput in the production process as well as saving of pigment quantity due to lower metering heights.
