Doseable colour paste that meets the highest demands
Current legislation requires a rethink in the production of preservative-free paints. Because all components used in the paint must be free of biocides to qualify for such a label, we enable the production of paint products that comply with common environmental seals. With the help of sophisticated formulations, our pigment preparations and colour pastes achieve excellent results with high colour strength and opacity, even without the use of controversial biocides and preservatives. In this way, scholz creates the prerequisites for producing a new generation of excellent paints, thereby opening up new sales opportunities, providing strong selling points, and ensuring satisfied, appreciative end customers.
Excellent paints made possible by our colour pastes
Since low-emission formulations are particularly desirable for paints and coatings used in interior spaces, there are legally binding limit values that must be met. Well-known environmental labels, such as the Blue Angel or the EU Ecolabel, also provide guidance for end consumers. They identify paints and coatings that meet particularly strict requirements regarding production and the additives used. The primary goal here is to prevent emissions caused by pollutants and solvents or preservatives, such as methylisothiazolinone.
If components - including colour paste or concentrate - contain preservatives during product manufacturing, the final product cannot be labeled as preservative-free. Therefore, our innovative colour concentrates primarily serve manufacturers who wish to meet the criteria of relevant environmental and sustainability labels.
Of course, our preservative-free colour pastes can also be used for tinting conventional applications and base paints.

Euronox/Euronyl 4BF for water-based tinting
In the Euronox/Euronyl 4BF product line (which stands for "for biocide-free"), we have provided the pigment preparations with permanent protection against microorganisms. They have been specially developed for even more versatile use in all common water-based paints and coatings.
Solidflow for aqueous coatings and paints
Our partner SIOF from Italy has also addressed the topic of preservative-free products and, together with us at the last ECS (European Coatings Show), introduced a solid, and therefore water-free, pigment preparation. The free-flowing granules in Solidflow are ideal for use in aqueous paints and coatings. Since they are free of biocides, VOCs, and APEOs, they open up new possibilities for tinting (e.g., POS tinting). Instead of existing dosing systems for liquid pigment preparations, these granules only require an adapted dosing system.
Euronox/Euronyl NOW for preservative-free coatings
Euronox/Euronyl NOW (= "no water") are liquid pigment preparations that contain neither water nor volatile solvents. They can be used ideally in conventional POS dosing systems. The principle of our preparation is similar to the preservation method known from the food industry, which involves lowering the water content—not by boiling, but through a specifically developed formulation by our colour experts. Stability against bacterial and mold infestation can be scientifically expressed via water activity. Water activity is the ratio of the vapor pressure of a mixture compared to that of pure distilled water. Below certain values, growth is no longer possible. Reducing water activity to values <0.6 is sufficient to prevent the growth of microorganisms even in pigment preparations.
A major advantage of our concept of completely water-free pigment preparations is therefore the ability to dispense with preservatives entirely, thereby offering a product that remains free of infestation over very long periods.
